The city of Opelousas is part of the Diocese of Lafayette and has a population of about 15,000.  It is the parish seat of Saint Landry Parish…remember, Louisiana has “parishes” rather than counties, so it can be a bit confusing for visitors.  The French Catholic influence is strong in this part of Louisiana, and you will find several great places of interest here.

By plane: Commercial air transportation is available at Lafayette Regional Airport (LFT), about 26 miles to the south; or Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport (BTR), about 59 miles to the east.
