About Immaculata Monastery in Norfolk, Nebraska
Immaculata Monastery is the main Priory house of The Missionary Benedictine Sisters of Tutzing (often misspelled as “Tutzig”), an international Catholic religious congregation of women living according to the Rule of St. Benedict with a strong missionary focus.
Fr. Andreas (Josef Georg) Amrhein founded the congregation in 1885 in Reichenbach, southern Germany, as part of his vision to renew Benedictine monastic life oriented toward mission. He aimed to establish stable monastic communities that would proclaim the Gospel, especially among people who had not yet heard it, combining prayer, community life, and apostolic work rather than relying solely on individual missionaries.
Their initial formation and infirmary are located here. Most of the Sisters’ ministries in this location are in the monastery or a part of their spirituality center. Among their assignments are Mercy Meals, spiritual education, visiting the homebound, animal shelter and other activities in the community.
