About the Handmaids of the Heart of Jesus:
The Handmaids of the Heart of Jesus (ACJ) are a Catholic public association of lay faithful, founded in 2007 in New Ulm, Minnesota by Mother Mary Clare Roufs and being established as a community in 2010. They are a diocesan religious institute, known for their distinctive habit, commitment to deep prayer (including Eucharistic Adoration), and apostolates in education, youth ministry, and catechesis. Their focus is on teaching in Catholic schools, youth ministry, faith formation, liturgy, family life, and visitation of the sick.
Their spiritual life emphasizes prayer; including daily Eucharistic Adoration, Mass, and the Liturgy of the Hours. They accept women under 35, who live communally and wear a religious habit.
Although the order is based here in New Ulm, they also have communities also in Duluth (MN), Saint Paul (MN), and Dickinson, ND., with additionally communities already being planned.
Note that they are distinct from similar-sounding communities like the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
