About Corpus Christi Parish in Lawrence, Kansas:
The parish was founded in 1981 by Archbishop Ignatius J. Strecker as a daughter parish of St. John the Evangelist (downtown Lawrence). It began with more than 300 families west of Iowa Street, with Fr. Frank Horvat as the founding pastor. Early Masses were held at West Junior High and First Baptist Church while a temporary building was constructed at 11th & Kasold.
Due to growth, a new church and school campus opened in fall 2000 at the current Bob Billings Parkway location under Fr. Jim Shaughnessy. Later pastors included Fr. Mick Mulvany and Fr. Jerry Volz (from July 2020). Fr. Carter Zielinski became pastor in November 2025. The parish has grown to roughly 1,400+ families and operates as a stewardship parish.
Corpus Christi Catholic School (Pre-K through 8th grade) shares the campus and is a ministry of the parish. It emphasizes faith formation, academics, and service.
The parish offers ministries, faith formation, FORMED resources, online giving, a capital campaign, and community events.
