About Zion National Park:

One of the most visited National Parks in the U.S., Zion National Park attracts over 4 million visitors per year.  It is a natural wonder, 232 square miles in size, with high plateaus, a maze of narrow, deep, sandstone canyons, and the Virgin River and its tributaries.

It is, as you might expect, home to many forms of wildlife….one of which is the endangered California Condor. With its massive 8-9 foot wingspan, it is the largest bird in North America.  Almost extinct, a conservation plan put in place by the United States government led to the capture of all the remaining wild condors by 1987, with a total population of 27 birds. These surviving birds were bred at the San Diego Wild Animal Park and the Los Angeles Zoo. Numbers rose through captive breeding, and beginning in 1991, condors were reintroduced into the wild. Since then, their population has grown, but the California condor remains one of the world’s rarest bird species.
