Lanai City, Hawaii: Sacred Hearts Church

About Lanai:

Sometimes called the “Pineapple Island” due to its pineapple plantations, Lanai is the smallest of the populated islands and perhaps the least commercial.  It is not easily reached by air…you need to ferry from nearby Oahu (which you can actually see in the distance) but it is a wonderful break from the sometimes hectic pace of the other islands and there are quite a few resorts on the island.

The only major town on the island is Lanai City, with a population of around 3,000.  Most of the land on the island is privately owned by Lawrence Joseph Ellison founder of Oracle Software.

About Sacred Hearts Church:

Dedicated to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, this is the only church on the island, and offers many masses.
