Buffalo, New York (Cheektowaga): Saint John Gualbert Roman Catholic Church and Shrine

About Saint John Gualbert Catholic Church and Shrine:

Buffalo has many beautiful churches built by European immigrants over the past 100 years or more.  Saint Gualbert Roman Catholic Church in Cheektowaga is one of them.  What gives this church something extra is a collection of relics that is unmatched in the city, due to the efforts of its pastor, Father Michael Burzynski, who  has been collecting relics for over 25 years.

He collected relics from all three classifications:

First Class relics which must have a direct connection to Jesus Christ or be a saintly body part

Second Class relics which must have belonged to a saint or have been used to torture a martyr

Third Class relics which simply have to have come in contact with a First or Second Class relic.

When he was appointed pastor of  St. John Gualbert’s Roman Catholic Church,  Father Burzynski brought his entire collection and placed it on a side altar in the church where they are on permanent display for visiting and veneration.
