This is amazing Gothic cathedral is perhaps most notable for containing a statue of Our Lady of Vandoma.  This was brought from France by soldiers involved in the reconquest of Spain to free the country from the moors.  And with them was D. Nonego, the Bishop of Vendôme (later Porto’s XIV bishop) carrying the image of Our Lady of Vandoma.

It was originally placed in an oratory above the main entrance to the walls of the city, which was also the entrance that led to the Cathedral.  The arch was destroyed in 1855 and the image was moved in to the Cathedral.
