About the Cathedral of Divine Providence in Chișinău, Moldova:
The Cathedral of Divine Providence is the see of the Diocese of Chișinău. The neoclassical church was built in 1836 by architect Avraam Melnikov, thanks to grants by Czar Nicholas I of Russia. Only in 1989, after a series of appeals to the central authorities of the USSR, the Red Cross and the UN, the church building was returned to the parish and the faithful with the transfer act signed on July 26, 1989.
After partial repairs in the first years after the transfer of the building, in 2002, a three-year large-scale restoration of the cathedral began, which was completed in 2005, when electronically controlled bells were installed. In 2007, stained glass windows, central mosaic and mosaics were installed on the front doors to the chapel of the Most Holy Sacrament and the Sacristy (Zakhristia). In 2017-2018, new repair work was carried out, the cathedral acquiring its current external and internal appearance. Masses are offered in Russian and also in several other languages.
