About Noto, Sicily:
The old expression “a town lost in time” might very well apply to Noto. In 1693 an earthquake devastated the town, and it was reconstructed in an entirely new location. The baroque buildings, built of local compacted limestone, were designed under the architects Labisi, Sinatra, and Gagliardi. Their goal was to create an urban center. The plan was to create a perfectly proportioned urban center divided into three parts by roads running from east to west, so that the sun would shine on parts of the town throughout the day.
There are many magnificent churches in the city (population about 25,000 in 2024) so we will just highlight one for the moment.
