About the Church of San Michele Arcangelo (1719) in Anacapri, Italy:
Built in 1719, this Baroque style church is octagonal in shape. The most notable feature its majolica floor mosaic which covers the entire church ground floor. The mosaic consists of 1,500 tiles and was completed in 1761 by Leonardo Chiaiese who is considered as one of finest craftsman of the day. The subject is the garden of Eden.
In the center you can see where an angel orders Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden – they are surrounded by animals, some mythical and some real, including a unicorn, waterfowl, camels, and a serpent wrapped around the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.
You have to walk around the floor via a raised wooden walkway that is there to protect it from wear and tear. For a better overall view, you can go to the second floor and view the whole scene in its entirety.
