It was here in the city of Compiegne that Joan of Arc was captured in 1430.  After attacking the Burgundian Forces, her troops began to retreat, despite her wishes and orders.  She led  a rear guard action while the bulk of her troops retreated to Compiegne.  As Joan and the remaining rear guard troops approached the city, the drawbridge to the town was drawn up before they could enter…whether on purpose or not is apparently still up for debate.  She was arrested by the Burgundians and kept in prison prior to her trial.

The church has some beautiful stained glass windows, and there is one in particular that will draw your attention. It is one of Saint Joan of Arc in prayer before her capture.
