The history of the Mission of Divine Mercy:
Begun in 2001, the Mission of Divine Mercy is a relatively new Roman Catholic religious Community in the Archdiocese of San Antonio. “Mission” refers to the place, but the Community is called Mission of Divine Mercy or MDM, for short.
The 130 acres where they reside is called Mission La Divina Misericordia, usually just referred to as The Mission. From its inception, the Mission’s purpose has been three fold: monastery, sanctuary and retreat center.
About the Mission of Divine Mercy in New Braunfels, Texas:
The Holy Eucharist is at the center of the Community’s life, and its apostolate is to bring God’s message of Mercy to our suffering world. Many people are drawn to the Mission because of the reverence with which Mass is celebrated, whether it is in English or Spanish.
The Mission is a combination of well-tended park-like areas, and wild rocky hillsides crisscrossed by rough trails. You are welcome to come and spend time at one of our Chapels, or enjoy a quiet prayer spot, or visit multiple prayer stations. Walking With Jesus and Mary is a prayerful, printed guide to our various prayer stations and is available at St. Raphael’s. If you wish to use their network of more rugged trails, then they ask you to stop in and sign a waiver at St. Raphael’s
Retreats…both silent and group retreats…are offered on a regular basis. No fee is charged, other that a small registration fee, but donations are greatly appreciated since the Mission relies completely on voluntary donations.
Visitors also come for their times of Adoration and to experience the Sacrament of Reconciliation—all special experiences here.
You can get holy water, blessed salt, blessed oil, and blessed candles (available upon request) at the Mission. (Under the tent on weekends; at St. Raphael’s during the weekdays.)
