Saint Leonard, also known as Saint Leonard of Noblat, was a Frankish noble and hermit who lived in the late 5th and early 6th centuries. Converted to Christianity alongside King Clovis I of the Franks by St. Remigius, Bishop of Reims, he declined an offer of a bishopric and instead entered the monastery at Micy near Orléans, later becoming a hermit in the forest of Limousin.
Leonard was known for his compassion toward prisoners. King Clovis granted him the authority to visit prisons and release those who had been converted to Christianity. He also founded the Abbey of Noblac, which became a center for his ministry and pilgrimage.
According to tradition, miracles were credited to his intercession, including aiding women in labor and the release of captives, which further enhanced his veneration. He died of natural causes around 559 AD.
You will find his shrine here in Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat in France.
