About Saint Anastasia Catholic Church in Fort Pierce, Florida:
The parish traces its roots to the early 1900s. The first Catholic Mass in Fort Pierce was celebrated in 1903. Senator James P. McNichol, a Philadelphia Catholic and winter visitor, became a major benefactor. He purchased land and funded construction of a wood-framed church (completed around 1908, seating 125), rectory, and later a school and convent. The parish was named in honor of St. Anastasia, the patron saint of McNichol’s deceased first wife. The original structures were on or near Orange Avenue. The parish grew, with a new church building dedicated in the 1920s. The historic Old St. Anastasia Catholic School building (1914) still stands elsewhere in Fort Pierce and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The church describes itself as a community called to share time, talents, and treasure to further God’s mission. In addition to Mass and confession it offers faith formation, events (such as Holy Hours, movie nights, and youth activities), and supports its attached Catholic school.
The parish also has a school, Saint Anastasia Catholic school, pre-school through grade 8, whose website is here.
