About Our Lady of Victories Cathedral in Maseru, Lesotho:
Designed by the architect Morisset and completed in 1958, this cathedral is dedicated to Mary, the mother of Jesus. Our Lady of Victories is one of the many titles of Mary, perhaps selected, because the church also serves as a memorial to the over 21,000 Basotho men from the British protectorate of Basutoland (now modern-day Lesotho) who served in the Allied forces during World War II, primarily in the African Auxiliary Pioneer Corps (AAPC). Tragically, over 1,100 of these soldiers lost their lives during the conflict.
