About The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Victoria, Seychelles:
The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (French: Cathédrale de l’Immaculée-Conception de Victoria) is the main Roman Catholic church in the Seychelles. It is part of the Latin Church, and serves as the seat of the bishop of the Diocese of Port Victoria which was established in 1892 by Pope Leo XIII.
Built in 1874 and renovated in 1995, this historic landmark features distinctive French-colonial architecture and a beautifully serene interior with Ionian-style pillars, a carved wooden door, colorful stained glass windows.
The photo here shows the State Funeral for Sir James Mancham, the founding President of the Seychelles, which was held here in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on January 12, 2017, followed by a burial at the State House Cemetery.
