The building showcases a mix of Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque architectural styles due to renovations and restorations and has endured numerous earthquakes, including the devastating 1755 Lisbon earthquake, and has been rebuilt and modified multiple times.
The cathedral features twin towers, a rose window over the main portal, and an impressive interior with a nave, chapels, a baptismal font, and a treasury.
Saint Anthony of Padua was born across the street and was baptized here.
