Comparing Cruise Lines

We are on thin ice here, since this is pretty subjective. But as a general guideline as to cost this should be a good point of reference for the six major categories of ocean cruises we have chosen amongst the major lines. There are also some smaller lines not included here that do special cruises (eg: the Arctic, Norwegian Fiords, etc). Be aware that special sailings, price wars, etc. can cause these rankings to change. As pointed out earlier, price is only one factor to take in to consideration.

And there are those who are very pleased with the so-called “bargain” lines so it is best to try to find someone with first-hand experience with that cruise line. Just to add more confusion, one ship on a particular cruise line might live up to your expectations while another ship on the same cruise line does not.

The demographics of the cruisers on the cruise line: what ports of call and size of ships (some are significantly smaller than others) are also key things to consider.
