Bologna, Italy: Shrine of Blessed Immelda Lambertini

About Blessed Immelda Lambertini:

Hers is an amazing story: at the very young age of 9, she entered a cloistered order of Dominicans. She had expressed a great desire to receive the Eucharist; however, at that time, the Church prohibited anyone under the age of 14 from receiving Holy Communion.

On May 12, 1333, the Feast of the Ascension, while praying in church, a bright white host was suspended over the head of Blessed Imelda. The other sisters of the order saw this miracle and called the priest.

Upon his arrival, the priest took this as a sign that Imelda was to receive Holy Communion.

The priest gave her communion; soon after, Imelda went into ecstasy and died that same day, at the age of 11.
