Feast of Saint Gerard Majella

All Day -

Born on April 6, 1726, Gerard's life was marked by numerous miracles, cementing his reputation as a wonder-worker. He reportedly restored life to a boy who fell from a cliff, multiplied bread for the starving poor on multiple occasions, blessed a farmer's wheat to repel mice and last through winter, and walked on water to save fishermen in a storm.

His most famous miracle, linking him to motherhood, occurred shortly before his death: Visiting the Pirofalo family, he dropped his handkerchief, telling a young girl to keep it "in case she might need it someday." Years later, as a woman in difficult labor, she used it and immediately delivered a healthy child safely—a story that spread rapidly, earning him the title "il santo dei felice parti" (the saint of happy childbirths).

He died here on October 16, 1755 at the age of 29.

Saint Gerard is the patron saint of expectant mothers, mothers, motherhood, childbirth, unborn children, children, the falsely accused, good confessions, lay brothers, and his birthplace, Muro Lucano.
