About the Saint Ignatius Mission Church in Saint Ignatius, Montana:
The St. Ignatius Mission was built in the early 1890’s and is located on the Flathead Indian Reservation with the Mission Mountain Range in the background. The Church is unique because its walls and ceilings have 58 original paintings by Brother Joseph Carignano on them. We have two very special paintings of the Salish Lord and Lord’s mother (in Native American form) that are located in the back of the Mission.
Next to the Mission, we have a museum and gift shop that displays Mission and Indian artifacts and sells religious items. We also have the log home which was the original Sisters’ residence when they first arrived.
The following hours are confirmed as of September 2024, but be sure to check their website below for exact times:
The church is open for visitors 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM during winter months and until 7:00 PM during summer months. The cabins are open in the summer.
Sunday Masses are being celebrated at 9am and 5pm. Weekday Masses are Monday – Friday at 7:15 a.m.
Traveling to Saint Ignatius Mission Church in Saint Ignatius, Montana:
Saint Ignatius is located in western Montana on the Mission Mountains.
Interesting fact: The southern end of the Mission Mountains includes a large grizzly bear protection area which is usually closed to hikers from July thru September. This allows the bears to feed on lady bugs and cut worms, and attempts to keep bear-human contact to a minimum. I doubt that you would want direct contact….probably would not turn out well for you!
