Originally founded in 1890, Haymarsh is a rural community near Glen Ullin, North Dakota, about 50 miles west of Mandan. The area has a strong German and German-Hungarian Catholic heritage, with the church site having been a significant part of the community’s social and spiritual life for over a century.  It is a small community: a cluster of three or four homes and nearby farmsteads centered around St. Clement Catholic Church and its former school.

The community has a rich history, with the church being rebuilt twice after fires, the last construction occurring in 1937.
