Girdwood (Anchorage), Alaska: Our Lady of the Snows Chapel

About Our Lady of the Snows Chapel in Girdwood (Anchorage), Alaska:

Not specifically a Catholic chapel, this beautiful chapel is available to all denominations for services and weddings. The 11 forward-facing pews seat 110 people. There are 4 pews at the front of the chapel, facing the altar at a right angle, which seat an additional 28 people. French doors separating the chapel and the narthex may be opened during services to provide seating for 50 more people.

Note: a Catholic priest can say Mass in a non-denominational chapel, but only under specific conditions outlined in Canon Law (Can. 933): there must be a just cause (like a destroyed parish), the local diocesan bishop’s permission, and measures must be taken to prevent scandal (confusion among the faithful). While generally discouraged due to differing beliefs, this exception allows for Mass in situations where a Catholic space isn’t available, requiring proper approval and ensuring the reverence of the Eucharistic celebration.

The Chapel has a lovely bride’s room, located off the narthex, which is available to those renting the chapel for a wedding.
