French Guiana

About French Guiana:

French Guiana is an overseas department of France on the northeast coast of South America. It is France’s second-largest region, mostly composed of tropical rain forest. The ruins of 17th-century Fort Cépérou overlook the capital city, Cayenne, with its colorful Creole houses and street markets. Shops and cafes surround the palm-filled main square, Place des Palmistes. The Rémire-Montjoly suburb is lined with Atlantic coast beaches.

It is also known being the launch site of the Ariane rocket, the jewel of the European space industry; however, protests from locals regarding treatment of Guiana by the French government have recently made news as well. Unfortunately French Guyana has became France’s most deadly territory, with 42 murders among its 250,000 inhabitants, several of which have shaken public opinion.
