Minsk, Belarus

About Minsk, Belarus:

Minsk is the capital and largest city of Belarus, with a population of around 2 million as of recent estimates. Located on the Svislach and Nyamiha rivers in the central part of the country, it’s the administrative, economic, cultural, and political hub of Belarus, also serving as a key center for the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

First mentioned in 1067, Minsk has a rich history marked by periods under Polish-Lithuanian rule, Russian influence, and heavy destruction during World War II (it was designated a “Hero City” in 1974 for its role in resisting Nazi occupation).

Much of the city was rebuilt in the Soviet era with grand Stalinist architecture, wide boulevards, and modern structures, giving it a clean, orderly, and progressive feel despite its often understated reputation.
