Matera Cathedral, known as Cattedrale di Santa Maria della Bruna, is a Romanesque-style cathedral in Matera, Basilicata, Italy, dedicated to the Virgin Mary under the title of Madonna della Bruna and Saint Eustace. Built in the 13th century (1268–1270) on the highest point of the city, Civita hill, it overlooks the Sassi di Matera, the ancient cave dwellings. Its Apulian Romanesque architecture features a prominent rose window with 16 rays and an arched gallery on the facade.
The cathedral has a Latin cross layout with three naves, a raised presbytery, and a crypt. Notable elements include a 14th-century fresco of the Last Judgment, a Byzantine-style Madonna della Bruna, and a carved wooden choir from 1453. Restored multiple times, it was last reopened in 2016 after extensive renovation.
The Bell tower, at 170 feet (52 meters), is a landmark in the city.
