Washington, DC: Ukrainian Catholic National Shrine of the Holy Family

About the Ukrainian Catholic Church:

In communion with Rome, the Ukrainian Catholic Church has a history of great persecution during the Soviet era, when over 3600 priests were executed in Ukraine and most churches and monasteries were demolished or put to other use. The fact that the faith survived is a testament to the Ukrainian people.

A compelling testimony of someone who suffered at the hands of the communists is “Witness”, by the late Josyp Terelya. We highly recommend it.

Of course the Ukrainian Catholic Church spread throughout the world and certainly one of the places that it prospered was in the United States. The Ukrainian Catholics are in communion with Rome but worship according the Eastern Rite tradition.
