About Saskatchewan:
Saskatchewan was formerly part of the Northwest Territories and was split off in 1905 to become a separate province. In size (251,700 mi²) it is slightly smaller than the state of Texas (268,597 mi²) but vastly different in population. Saskatchewan has a population of about 1.2 million people versus the 29 million in Texas (2024 official statistics). Much the southern part of Saskatchewan is grasslands, while to the north are the rugged rock of the Canadian Shield plateau, coniferous forests, rivers and lakes. Regina is the provincial capitol.
The primary language in Saskatchewan is English, although French is sometimes spoken due to the influence of the early French explorers, fur traders, and later, Métis and French Canadian settlers.
