Leuven, Belgium: Ou Lady of Leuven

About Our Lady of Leuven:

Here in Leuven (pronounced Louvain in French) you will find the statue of Our Lady of Leuven, also called the Seat of Wisdom. This famous wooden statue of the Blessed Mother was carved by Nicolaas De Bruyne in 1442, and was a larger facsimile of an earlier statue dating from the 13th century.

That statue was completely destroyed during World War II, so what you see today is a replica of the statue.

While in Leuven, you should also plan to visit Park Abbey.  This famous Abbey is currently undergoing re-construction, but parts of it are open to the public.  Click here to learn the history of the Abbey.
