Milwaukee has a rich Catholic history dating back to the early French Catholic missionaries and fur traders. Large numbers of immigrants arrived in the 1840’s, with German being the largest group followed by Polish immigrants in the latter part of the Century.
The city became known for its many breweries and, of course, its many vibrant Catholic parishes. As industrialization declined in the past few decades, it became somewhat less important as an industrial city, but has been re-born and offers many great opportunities for visitors.
